As I’ll be going to Lerwick in August of this year, I will really try to finish this in time. I love the pattern of Next Year in Lerwick, but don’t like the boat neckline so am using the neckline from the First Fair Isle sweater and hopefully will be able to fudge it enough to get to the right number of stitches when the pattern starts. I will be using the Hebridean for the main colour and various shades of Jamieson and Smith jumperweight for the pattern - not sure yet what is going where - will have to do some swatching and some playing around with colours, but turquoise Shade 65 will be quite prominent as it goes so well with the dark chocolate hebridean.

It’s done! I may redo the cuffs and hem on smaller needles, but it’s blocking and ready to go to Shetland where I’ll try and get some proper photos. Easily the most challenging project I’ve ever knitted. I love colourwork but perhaps not with as many colours (too many yarns getting twisted and ends to weave in). Having said that - it’s a very clever, very beautiful design and I am sure I will love wearing this.

Mods: Incorporated the neckline of First Fair Isle pattern, didn’t do any waist shaping and changed all the ribbing to a 1 x 1. Also did 3/4 sleeves as they are my preferred length and I wanted to showcase the brown Hebridean wool as much as possible.

I have learned tons about choosing colours for this type of project so while it took forever, it was definitely a good learning project.
