Basically the poncho is made up of two identical rectangles, each measuring roughly 25” wide and 37” long. The length dictates the width of the neck as well as the actual length of the poncho. The longer it is, the wider the neck will be.

The left edge of each rectangle is an inch or so of garter, with the main body being stockinette stitch up until the right edge, which is a single 10-st cable against a reverse stockinette background.

A heavy aran works well for this, worked in 2 needle sizes larger than the yarn label recommends - this gives more drape. The yarn I used recommends a 5mm needle, and I went up to 7mm.

I picked up stitches for the cowl neck and worked this in the round.

I plan to knit another one in a month or so, and will make more notes then. It will certainly be a little smaller - I’ll aim for 24” x 36”.
