Cast on 100 stitches became I’m using smaller needles. Patten calls for 4.5mm but my small set of DPNs is 3.5mm. Hopefully it works out!
Cast on and first row in knit, but switched to k1,p1 rib became I really like the squishy texture.

ugh 50-some rows in, and it’s finally long enough to try on…. And it’s too tight. bah! So I’ve frogged it, and will be casting on 115 stitches this time.

A couple days later, I’m back to where I was. It fits much better now!
Changes :
- Cast on 114 stitches.
- Worked ~40 k1,p1 rib.
- Picking up the CO stitches, p2tog all the way around. This creates a double layer ear covering at the bottom of the hat. There will still be 114 stitches around.
- Continuing with the Misty Morning Hat pattern, yo,k2tog the next row.
- Do decreases from Viking’s Recipe, but still following the Misty Morning pattern.

Didn’t have enough yarn to finish. Needed maybe two meters… >.<
Instead of frogging, re-winding, and starting over, I just pulled the needles out and am knitting from the old hat to the new. Still following the basic pattern above, though starting with only five rows of k1,p1 rib.
This is the last time I’m trying this darn hat. Maybe I’ll even take a process photo this time!

Yeah, nothing went according to plan. I finished the hat back in September, though the decreases didn’t go smoothly…. It’s got a cute little point on top, like an old Turkish helmet. I’d hoped to have enough to do an i-cord knot, or a pompom, but no.

And then, fast forward three months - turns out I’ve got a whole second skein. >_< After wearing it for a while, I’ve realized that it doesn’t really protect my ears from the wind. So yesterday I picked up the BO stitches around the bottom and started knitting again. Probably going for three inches, and three Misty Morning sections, to fold up over my ears.

Ok done. It doesn’t look great, and it pushes the point a little further back on my head, but! it keeps my ears warm! And it says on. whew. ok declaring victory and moving on to the scarf again.
