For the TARDISlocked challenge:
“Vworp vworp vworp” appears to be deeply embedded in the British culture consciousness, along with “EXTERMINATE!”. :)
Notes:
Worked this out of order - started by making a provisional crochet cast-on (351 stitches) and doing the TARDIS section (17 repeats). Put a bead on in place of the bobble for the light.
Knit 4 rows of reverse stockinette after last TARDIS pattern row, cut yarn and capped the cable, leaving the stitches live on hold for the time being.
Unraveled the provisional cast on and picked the top stitches up. Because you lose half a stitch when picking up to knit the other way like this, i had 350 stitches on the needle at the top of the TARDISes. While picking them all up i placed stitch markers to help keep tabs on where i was when knitting the lace section on (the number = amount of stitches, a comma indicates a stitch marker):
10,19,19,19,19,19,19,19,19,6,7,7,6,19,19,19,19,19,19,19,19,10
(shortened)10,19x8,6,7,7,6,19x8,10
Each of these numbers lines up with a section of the lace knitting. Each stitch of the curved edge of the lace section is knit together with one live stitch from the top of the TARDISes, except for a few strategic rows.
The first 10 body stitches correspond to the first 13 foundation rows of the lace. For this i skipped knitting together the lace with the body on the 2nd, 7th, and 12th rows of the lace.
The groupings of 19 body stitches correspond to the 24-row increase/decrease repeat. For these sections i skipped knitting together the lace and body on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th and 24th rows.
The 6,7,7,6 section corresponds to the four repeats of lace with no increases or decreases. On these sections i’m going to spread out the “skips” as evenly possible, i think like so: (4th 8th),5th, 4th, (1st 5th). Should make it nice and even.
A similar idea is used for the bottom lace:
first 10 body stitches get 12 rows of lace (skip attaching 3rd and 8th)
Eight repeats of 19 body stitches get 24 rows (double chart up to make 24 rows, skip 5, 10, 15, 20, 24)
Center section (6,7,7,6) gets 3 lace chart repeats
Repeat 19x sections as before
Repeat 10 section as before
now that the bottom edging is done, I’d actually add more extra repeats of the lace in the center, to add some ease where the curve of the shawl is greatest. Probably ad half a chart repeat to the 19 stitch sections right before and after the center (6,7,7,6) chunk, and possibly a whole extra repeat to that center part.
