Notes

7.29.13
We had a cold front come in last week. I got a little giddy in anticipation of autumn and cast on new projects.
I kind of wish I was doing this sweater in a nicer yarn but don’t even know if it’s going to work or if I’ll stick with this pattern---I’m doing some heavy modifications (thanks to all the notes from other Ravelry users) to the collar so it stays up and is tighter to my neck.
If it works out, I’ll share what I did.

7.31.13
I don’t want to jinx anything but the mods might work out! Though, I still haven’t gotten used to the fact that it seems inside out. Not used to reverse stockinette. And I still wish I could have gone with a nicer yarn but my budget took precedent on this one. And I’m not sure I’m doing the raglan increases correctly---they seem funny. Ah well, onward.

8.16.13
Picked this up again last night. Amazing how working on a project using acrylic yarn can make appreciate wool of the andes. I’m up to the point in the pattern where there is an raglan increase every fourth row.

9.3.13
Only about a row or two from separating the sleeves and body.

9.17.13
OK, I think I can officially share my modifications because they may have worked out. I’ve seen other users mention that the yoke was too short so that is why the collar ends up so wide. I’m thinking the reason is worked for me is because have a large frame/wide shoulders and am very tall with a low bust. If you are small/petite this might not work out. Though I do wonder if I should have made the medium.

MODIFICATIONS:
Cast on only 84 stitches for size Large.
Work collar as written. (It’ll be four 18 * repeats with 6 knit stitches on either side)
After collar, add 4 rows reverse stockinette.
Add :
Row 1 (WS): K
Row 2 (RS): P (evenly increasing 10 stitches with purl increase method)
Row 3: K
Row 4: repeat row 2
Total of 104 stitches
Now you have to get up to 120 stitches to be even with written pattern’s set up row. So add this new setup row (WS): Knit 28, pm, k1, pm, k10, pm, k1, pm, k40, pm, k1, pm, k10, pm, k1, pm, k12
Next row (RS): Do raglan increase as stated, increasing 8 stitches (112 st)
Repeat last two rows once more (120 st)
Continue pattern as stated, working your way up to 200 st.

11.7.13
This has been semi-hibernating for a while because I’m beginning to wonder if I should rip back to the arm holes and go with a smaller size in the body. After my first cardigan ended up too small, I worried and went large. But this design benefits being a little snug….

11.26.13
Decided to keep the size as is. Almost done with the body section!

11.28.13
Started the sleeves. I’m working them inside out since it’s easier for me to knit than purl. I’m also doing them two-at-a-time. Which might be crazy but it’s working. So far.
I also decided to do the sleeves the next size down.

12.10.13
I’m only about 8 rounds from where the sleeves are supposed to end but I’m going to continue on to make them full length.

12.31.13
Done! (Well, apart from weaving in the ends, blocking and adding the buttons!)

1.6.14
Officially done. Buttons are from Forestlass on Etsy. I made the sleeves too long so I cuffed them back. (Which I’m kind of liking.) I have a lot more to learn about sweater knitting and finishing but overall, I’m pretty pleased with my new cardigan!
