I made this vest shorter than the pattern--it’s only 26” long. I also added my family crest to the back in intarsia, so I only did one repeat of the pattern at the top of the back rather than 3.

Unlike other patterns and yarns, I had to go down two needle sizes to get gauge. Maybe it was because of the yarn--I don’t knit with cotton yarns very well, I find. But Mom is in Hawaii, so a wool yarn was out.

It’s a pretty vest, simply constructed, and easily adjustable for my changes. The geometric pattern looks almost 3-dimensional in some lights. I think Mom will like this, it’s on its way to her right now.
