1.9.12 - I did 12 gores and a temporary join, then had Phil try on and he liked the fit, so finished there. I really like the joining row method used here and will use in other projects. I left the tail in 1 photo so the join row can be seen, showing how nicely it comes out, even tho the photos are pretty dark. In the photo without the tail showing, it’s hard to tell where the join is located.
It is 9 1/2” tall with 23” circumference. Weighs 92 gms, so only used about 16 yds from the 2nd skein.
Phil’s head is on the big side, for Dave, myself or another adult I’d start with 11 gores, then see.
12-28-11 so Phil liked idea of stocking cap to go with his Amazing Basketweave Scarf, but I didn’t think he’d like the multicolor on his head, chose this green and hope it will look good together.
hook is a Boye E/4, 3.5mm which gives me gauge with the yarn single since it’s a worsted rather than fingering.
a couple notes on the pattern, which is well-written and links to a video that shows her ‘Special Turn’
- the Special Turn is done on the brim edge and you can see from the photos that it makes a nice edge
- pay attention to where she says to work or not work a Ch1
- the stitch count of the hdc (US term) remains the same (all shaping is done with the sc (US term) and ss), I found it helpful to place a marker between hdc and sc stitches for less counting
- finally, for ones used to US terminology, it’s helpful to write SC in place of DC
in progress photos (sorry they’re so poor) taken halfway through the 9th repeat (it is a 6 row repeat) - I’ve now used 1 full skein, which has taken me through row 2 of the 12th repeat
One further note, next time I’ll probably add hdc stitches as I think it’s going to have a pretty short amount to roll up a brim for an adult.
