Notes

This project was for the Webs Expert Knitting Top Down Raglan Sweater class with Erin Holman. I really appreciated how Erin distilled down the Barbara Walker Knitting from the Top book we used into the essential process and calculations, and I was able to learn a ton more from this approach! The calculation sheets for the sleeves and body decreases and increases were especially educational.

Incorporated Harlow Sweater V-Neck for v-neck construction. I had this pattern in my queue for some time because I was obsessed with the neck and was really excited that I could add it to our project. It worked beautifully!

Bottom: completed swatches for two options and decided on the mosaic.

  1. Diamond eyelets with ridged eyelet rows (from 750 Knitting Stitches) followed with K1P1 ribbing.
  2. Gems slipped stitch mosaic pattern from Mosaic Chart Directory for Knitting + Crochet by Anna Nikipirowicz.

Body knit with US 7, mosaic pattern with US 8 and neck, sleeves and waistband 2x2 ribbing with US 4. Used tubular bind-off for sleeves and waistband.

Sleeve paired decreases started at 1”, every 9 rounds, 12 times. Started with 66 stitches and started matrix pattern with 42 stitches. Added 2 stitches before completing 2x2 ribbing at cuff. Bound off with 44 stitches.

Body decreases also started at one inch, every 5 rounds, 7 times. Went from 182 stitches to 154 stitches at waist. One inch waist and then paired increases every 3 rounds, nine times, ending with 190 plus two added stitches at start of matrix pattern. 192 stitches also worked for 2x2 ribbing at bottom.

So tickled about how wonderful it is to have carefully designed waist decreases and increases! I’m very tall so this extra customization makes a big difference.
