My stepdaughter shared this clever hat idea with me: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQJs8JEDGW4/?igsh=YTVja2o4...
Here’s my approach:
Headband: 100 stitch k1p1 cable cast on with US 6 needles and k1p1 to desired doubled over height.
Here’s the traditional granny square pattern: https://blog.lionbrand.com/how-to-crochet-a-classic-grann...
Sewed six squares together with this slip-stitch zigzag join method: https://youtu.be/V3-zQA2qjLs?si=caNOQdnL4wUlNxJp. Attached crochet to headband using whipstitch on the backside.
I don’t like crocheted crowns due to how the decreases look, so went with six sets of k2tog spiral decreases that aligned with the crochet squares.
Started by using US 7 DPNs and picked up 84 stitches (14 per crochet square). Knitted 2 rounds and then k2tog at the end of each six sets, every other row. Got down to five stitches left in each set and then went with two back-to-back decrease rounds. Ended with one k2tog round.
