Notes

My first Fair Isle. Would have been a fast knit, I took months because I got distracted by other projects and my 3 weeks holiday away. Love the V neck, neat and easy. Adapted the pattern for circular knitting, and also used 3 needle BO on the shoulder, so no need to sew.

Note though that because it is Fair Isle and using thick Aran yarn, the tank top is super thick!

Adaptation:

Using 5.5mm instead of 5, and knitting size S to get XS dimensions because the yarn I’m using is slightly thicker.

Also adapting pattern to knit in the round. Did this by following Fair Isle pattern and then adding a 2 stitch gutter of the dark brown yarn at each side. So increase can be added next to the gutter without having to keep the front and back pattern seamless. This comes up to exactly 184 stitches (2 x 92 for size S), which is 5 of the pattern repeats plus 2 of the gutter stitches. I love it when the math works out neatly.

See my blog post on this: Adapting Fair Isle pattern to knit in the round

August 2012

Did a swatch, the Fair Isle pattern seems fairly easy (it’s my first). My yarn is slightly different from suggested, I hope it will work well, should have less drape.

Back from holidays, now really picking up from where I had left this. Note to self: pay attention. It is much more time consuming to undo than to knit!

1 Oct 2012

Just started the second skeins of each colour, and finished the third increase.

13 Oct 2012

Very nearly finished. Just need to do ribbing for armholes. Very glad I adapted the pattern to knit in the round, and joined shoulders using 3 needle BO so there is no sewing up to do!

16 Nov 2012

Finished! Wet blocking it now. Hope it will fit! Also I made a mistake with the pattern on the bottom most diamonds, hopefully no one will notice it too much. :P
