Notes

3/19/2021 - I started swatching during the zoom cast on. Swatch 1: Size 6 (square) knitting needles. 10 rows of each of the 4 colors to get a sense of the color progression. I didn’t fade the colors together intentionally on the swatch
(blocked) Gauge wet - 20 sts, 28 rows / 4” on stockinette
(Preblocking the stitch gauge was fine but the row gauge was too loose.)
Blocked (dry) - 20.5 sts, 29 rows / 4”

Swatch 2: size 5 (square) knitting needles
Preblocked Gauge: 29 rows / 4”, 22 sts/4”
Post blocking: 30 rows / 4”, 21.5 sts/ 4”

Size recommendation: Bust + 2-4”. My bust in bralette is 46.5”, I’ll knit an XXL. I’ll use the size 5 needles

Tip from Andrea for picking up stitches (from zoom cast on party): pick up 5 sts over 7 rows: pick up 3 sts, skip a row, pick up 2 sts, skip a row, up the length of the sweater. Make sure you’re picking up in to the whole stitch.

Total Weight Used

(After swatching)
A #1 - 123.6
B #1 - 109.7
C #1 - 125.2
D #1 - 122.5

Ball 2 of Color B - 126.5 g.
D #2 - 127.8 g (started during bind off of main body)
C #2 - 128.2

Color Changes

  • After 18 increases in “Yoke - Section 1” start A- B color change. Color change done after repeat #26 (out of 27) of this section.
  • Changed to B skein #2 in the middle of “work 1 row even” at the end of the yoke increases.
  • B - C Change ## Rows into the body stockinette section.

I finished the main body!

Here are the weights of my yarn after the body and before the arms (in case I want to do yardage calculations someday):
A1 - 53.1 g
B2 - 89.6 g
C1 - 10.4 g
D2 - 125.3 g

Since there was so little left in the skein of C - I decided to hold it for the cuffs versus use it at the top of the sleeves.

I didn’t change needle sizes for the hem ribbing or for the sleeves. The sleeves are going to be a little large on me even without sizing up for them, so I’m fine (and hoping) for a slightly tighter gauge.

Sleeve 1 done! Knit on size 5 needles. I knit the sleeves inside out.

Knit 20 rounds after the 19th decrease before starting the cuff. I sized down to a size 4 needle for the cuff. The final stretchy bindoff was done knitwise on the wrong side (after the final knit round of the fade)

Weights of the yarn from one arm in case I want to break down yardage for planning another project someday:
A1 - 48.7 g
B2 - 72.5 g
C2 - 87.7 g
D2 - 97.1 g

Sleeve 2 finished a bit ago, but I’m picking up stitches for the collar today.

Weights after the second arm:
A1 - 44.3 g
B2 - 55.6 g
C1 - 46.8 g
D2 - 68.6 g

05-22-2021

Bound off the collar today! Now I need to block and weave in ends.

I have a full of each color left, which I am very happy about! I would buy the same.amount of yarn next time.

I read an interested comment that may help me next time.

For figuring out the yoke size of a raglan, I should measure above the bust next time maybe? Something like that.

Anyway, it is an oversized comfy cardigan and I really like it.
