Using the count for basic raglan v-neck, but using mohair and will make blouse-y sleeves

February 2, 2025

NOTE: Wording of the pattern is SUUUUPER confusing in the middle of page 5, regarding raglan increases changing… At this point the increases for sleeves are omitted. The increases are made ONLY before and after the sleeve section. Make NO increases in the sleeve section.

Split for sleeves. CO 5 underarm instead of 3 in

Have 8” of body knit, 5 more to go before I cord bind off

Finished the body and I cord bindoff using US 6. Decreased every 10 sts on bindoff round

THIS YARN IS A NIGHTMARE.

I received $150 gift card to my favorite LYS for my birthday. I was desiring to cast on a raglan V-neck blouse using mohair. I have dreamed of getting my hands on ,BichesetBuches](/people/BichesetBuches) yarn believing it to be bougie and luxurious. To my delight, my little store had some in stock. I didn’t love the colors of the lace weight version, but my daughter said this grey-blue would look great on me. And she’s always right, so I went with the thicker DK weight silk mohair. Bonus, I don’t have to manage 2 strands. To be clear, it’s not less expensive. One ball of lace weight was half the cost of DK weight. Deliriously happy, I bought all 5 balls they had in stock, knowing I would play yarn chicken but it could tolerate cropping it a bit. I literally skipped to my car!

Not long after, I cast on and began the raglan and v-neck shaping, So thrilled and so eager to wear this beauty! Joined the second ball, separated for sleeves, and zoomed along. Watching a movie in the dark, I decided to add the next ball and just keep knitting the body in the round instead of moving to sleeves. And the love story ends there.

The third ball had a knot in the second round. Weird. I cut it and joined the new section. Knitting along and soon after, another knot. Huh. Cut it, join the yarn again, and keep going. Another knot. I’ll spare you. Six knots in the first half of the ball. Six knots in 25 grams. (You can see all the ends in my photos) I didn’t expect that in a $22.50 ball of yarn, but whatever, it happens. I was happy when the knots stopped. And I was knitting away in the dark, finished the body and icord bind off. When I unscrunched it off the needles, I discovered the yarn has significantly varied texture. The second half of this ball is all thick and thin, and the thin sections have NO mohair fluff. They’re dense and ropey, like linen.

Used US 6 for icord neckline. 1 of 1 sts, 1 of 2 rows picked up

March 5, 2025

Picked up 5 underarm plus two to mitigate holes. K2 tog on front of arm, ssk on back. 63 sts around after underarm pu and hole mitigation

Another case of needle size error. I picked up sleeve stitches with my US 7 16” circular needle and the gauge was off. I really thought I knit the body on US 7, but must have mixed up my interchangeable needle tips (2 projects in a row… same with my maxi dress!!) and used US 6. So I ripped back the few inches of sleeve and used US 6, gauge matches perfectly. I really need to be a monogamous knitter lol. That said, I think I prefer the gauge. I only hope I will have enough yarn

Used the Ranunculus sleeve instructions. Knit to 16” then used the Ranunculus short row instructions, size 8 fits my stitch count

March 19, 2025

Frogged the sleeve back and reknit straight. No decreases and no shortrows. It just sat on my arm wrong. Knit 16” and I cord bind off with no decreases on US 6, same as sleeve

Also frogged back the body. The spots where I missed the extensive thin silk sections didn’t block out and looked like my final project was snagged. I have literally cut every strand of the yarn out that is just a thin strand of silk and I felted all the mohair pieces together in order to get enough yarn to finish this.

Biches et busches is definitely never a line I will spend my money on ever again. Such an awful experience
