Notes

Like the many before me, I added a YO at the beginning of each row and dropped it at the end of each row. It still gave me a beautiful crescent shape, which I love. The garter tab tends to poke up a bit despite my blocking, but it doesn’t really bother me. The crescent shape also gave the ends a nice natural curl.

I cast off using Jeny’s super stretchy bind off. I also sized up in my needle and used size 7. The edging turned out well.

I used much less yarn than suggested in the pattern. The mohair turned out to be a great choice. It makes the piece beautifully translucent. It was also my first time knitting something with two different kinds of yarn.

The 8th photo is a picture of the wrong side.

Notes for me:

  • 12/27/12 Using the purple foxtrot for both CC1 and CC2. No YO’s, since I like the crescent shape. Doing M1L and M1R in the pattern instead of Kfb as suggested by those before me. I didn’t like the way Kfb looked in garter stitch on the Scalene.

  • 12/30/12 After a few rows, I ripped back and decided to do the YO’s. It was already pulling tight on the top edge and forming a significant crescent. I wanted overall low curvature along the top edge.

    One increase row: K1, YO, K1, M1L, knit to last 3 stitches, M1R, K1, drop YO, K1.

    Two increases row: K1, YO, K1, M1L, K1, M1L, knit to last 4 stitches, M1R, K1, M1R, K1, drop YO, K1.

I’m also changing my mind about using the purple foxtrot for both CC1 and CC2. I remembered I had some lilac Pennyroyal Aloft mohair that will never become an FO with that other hibernating project. I think the mohair as CC1 might add an interesting texture to an otherwise fairly monotone color scheme.

  • 1/3/13 The mohair is actually a pale lilac, but it looks like a pale pink next to the gray. Mohair is also really fine yarn, but so far I’m liking the effect with it as CC1. It makes me want a garment with alternating stripes of mohair.

  • 1/26/13 I’m halfway through the short row section, but this has gotten incredibly boring to knit.

  • 6/11/13 On the border. A few more rows and I’m binding off.

  • Finished! Finally. I really didn’t think much of this project when knitting, but after (light) blocking, the finished product is beautiful.
