Notes

The arms are a bit tight. They stretch to fit, but getting a thin undershirt underneath without it bunching is trickier than I’d prefer. Next time I’d pick up a couple of extra stitches in the arms.

I used size 10 everywhere and then size 8 for all the ribbing. I bound off using JSSBO, which was fine everywhere except for the sleeves. Tends to flare out a bit at the sleeve ends, but not such a big deal since it was knit long enough to cover the bottom of my palm, so a bit of a flare fits well.

I did not do the thumb holes since I wasn’t sure I could get the placement correct.

The yarn is rather scratchy. I’m hoping with more wearing and washing, it’ll get better. It’s very warm and has been great this winter on the particularly chilly days.

Notes for me:

November 14, 2017
There’s an error in the pattern. Knitting in a size small, the total stitch count is off after separating for sleeves. I’ve frogged back and reknitted and still, my stitch count is off. I know there’s an error in the pattern, because 27+27+57 =! 115 as claimed.

After finishing the body, I moved on to the button band and the collar. Picking up stitches along the collar was fine and I picked up the requisite number of stitches. Picking up for the button band, I picked up about 1.5 as many stitches as needed. This was not intentional. I was focused on making sure the pickups were evenly distributed and it so happened to be 1.5 times, which was easily fixed by combining every other stitch in the next row.

I knitted about 10 rows in pattern before beginning the button holes. I used the one row button hole. I bound off 3 stitches for my ~1in buttons.

I was supposed to do sleeves before the band and the collar, but I dislike knitting sleeves and that’s where my sweater projects tend to stall. I’m saving sleeves for last with hopes that a finished project will motivate me, but even if it does stall, I’ve gotten to practice other techniques.

Why do I find sleeves SO unpleasant to knit? I’m doing them two at a time because I don’t know how I’d otherwise get them done.

Oh man, finally finished this sweater.

After soaking the item, I put it in a mesh bag and used my washing machine’s spin cycle to remove the excess water. After blocking, I sewed on buttons using this tutorial. Yes, I tied a knot. The item was a little bit tight when I tried it on as I was knitting it, but after blocking, it loosened up a bit and fit pretty well in the torso. Still pretty snug in the arms. I did not do the thumb holes mostly because this is my first sweater and I wasn’t sure I’d be able to place the thumb hole in the right place. Photos soon.

The arms are a bit too tight. The fit in the torso is fine, but the arms are a struggle to get on everytime. A few extra stitches would’ve helped.
