Notes

2020-11-22 Mittens

Wrist Cuff: US2 needles. 18 rows.
Start thumb inc after 6 rows of Herringbone pattern.
I made the purl sts sit backwards to make the knit rows of herringbone a bit faster.

Switched to using wood needles as too slippery on metal needles.

Right mitt finished as per pattern dimensions for size S/M.

2020-11-24

CO left mitt. Decide to make selvage 1 st each side as it was tricky to PU along the edge. But in the end it didn’t look as nice as original.

2020-11-26

Mittens done.
MC: 80g remain, 20g used
CC: 75g remain, 25g used

Note for hat, leave long tail for PU stitches later for 3-needle BO.

2021-01-19 Hat

Leave extra long tail at CO for use latter to PU sts for 3-needle BO.

Brim: US2 for 18 rows 1x1 twisted rib
Body: US7 for 5” = 30 rows Herringbone
Crown: 15 rows Herringbone decreases

Plan to finish within 7 days = 6-8 rows herringbone per day

2021-01-25

Finished hat 8.5” tall x 18” around.

Pattern mods:
I stopped after row 14, left the last 18 sts live on larger needles. Cut MC.
With smaller needles, PU along edge using CC from that extra long tail at CO up to top.
Then I knit row 15 using that same CC yarn. 9 sts.
Using same CC yarn, PU other edge from top down to bottom.
Ran out of my long tail, so joined more CC yarn for 3-needle BO from bottom to top until I get to last 8 sts. Cut CC yarn.
Thread both MC and CC tail through last 8 sts to cinch close the top.
Fewer ends to weave in.

MC: 45g remained = 35g used
CC: 64g remained = 11g used
