I’ll get around to posting a photo of the full completed sweater, eventually…

What I did:

Provisional cast on in the round, and knit upwards towards the neckline /lace pattern for 1 inch.

FRONT & BACK: At the point where I split the front and back for working to the shoulder, I used a longer cable and second ball of yarn to knit the front and back at the same time.

FOR THE NECKLINE ON THE FRONT:

When you get to a total of 11 pattern repeats from bottom, (or 19” across - try it on to make sure), garter stitch on the lace center for 3-6 rows, then put those stitches on a holder for later i-cord bind off.

Continue garter stitch on the three neck edge stitches on each side. If you have more than the required number of stitches for your shoulder straps, decrease every other row on neck side until you have the number of stitches you should have (on the size I’m knitting it’s 27).

After putting the center stitches on a holder, continue following pattern until the armhole, slightly stretched, measures 8 or 9 inches in depth. (Whichever works best for you.)

At the point where you have the front and back neckline stitches on a holder, it’s probably best to switch to using 4 balls of yarn if you’re going to continue knitting them at the same time.

FOR THE SCOOP NECKLINE ON THE BACK:

Knit the back as written for about 2 inches.

Garter stitch on the center 1/3 stitches for 6 rows, then put those stitches on a holder for later i-cord bind off.

Continue garter stitch on the three neck edge stitches on each side, and decrease every other row on neck side until you have the same number of stitches as left live on the front shoulder strap (in my size it’s 27). You may or may not have to do some decreases on the back shoulder strap to get it to match the front. Then continue to knit until it is the correct length.

Check armhole depth, (try it on if possible), and if needed add or subtract rows to get a correct fit before completing shoulder. The pattern suggests 8 inches, but mine ended up being 9 inches for a perfect fit

After ensuring a correct armhole depth, use a three-needle bind-off on the shoulder stitches. Then do attached i-cord around entire neckline, with i-cord bind off on the front and back stitches that are on a holder.

(Since I used the i-cord around the edges, I probably could have done without the garter stitches. But, I decided on the i-cord after I’d already knit the garter stitches, and didn’t feel like ripping them out.)

FOR THE BOTTOM - WITH WAIST AND HIP SHAPING:

Pick up the provisional cast-on for the bottom, placing markers at the beginning and the midway point. (In other words, place a marker at each side of the waist.)

WAIST SHAPING: At beginning of the row, k1, k2tog, knit to 3 stitches before the marker, ssk, k1. Do this at on the first row after picking up the provisionally cast on stitches, and again at rows 10 and 20.

HIP INCREASES: Begin increases at row 30. (Knit to one stitch before marker, m1, k1, slip marker, k1, m1, repeat on other side).

Work increases every 8th row, until it’s as wide as you need it to be.

BOTTOM EDGE:

Work 16 garter stitches, (8 on each side of markers) for a few rows. Split the sides and work them separately with 8 garter stitches on each side. Continue the side garter stitches until almost as long as you want to go. Then, stop the stockinette stitch, and garter stitch the last few rows.
I-cord bind off.

Sep 20th - Finished. I won at yarn chicken with just barely a yard of yarn left. I just need to block it now.
