WORKBASKET V19, N.4 - JAN 1954, PGs 26 & 27.

I also found the original pattern in Aunt Ellen’s Tatting Handbook, pg 50 & 51 - Tasseled Cross Bookmark. The only difference between the two is that the one in the WB mag with green cover has picots, and the original version did not.

Uses shuttle & ball & .6mm / 12 crochet hook.

For me this is practicing CTM. VERY similar to a cross I made in the 1970’s.

size 70 vintage thread in var. blue & white

THIRD PIC: I had a tatting class way back in the early 1970s, and made cross bookmark for grandmother, from size 10 thread. But we only learned the very basics – rings, chains, picots.

Within that same year, I tried to make another cross, but from sewing thread. It kept getting little kinks in it, and I’d pop them out. But then, one of the kinks didn’t pop, and the thread broke! We hadn’t learned how to add thread, or fix mistakes! I went screaming into the night, not to return to tatting until Dec 2015, when I found my shuttle, and the half finished cross. Imagine my surprise when I picked it up, and couldn’t remember one thing, not one! I had to start from scratch learning it. It was my dream to find the pattern again, and I found one very close, but with picots, and was finally able to make it again, with size 70 thread.
