section 2 : for the mosaic knitting to work, you need to slip stitches purlwise with yarn in back on right side rows, and slip them purlwise with yarn in front on wrong side rows.

section 2 : there is an easier way to knit the cables without using a cable needle. You can do it as follows.

When the pattern calls for you to 1/1LC --> skipping first st, knit second st on LH needle through back loop. Then knit both first and second sts on LH needle together through back loops, then slip both sts off LH needle at once.

When the pattern calls for you to 1/1RC --> k2tog, leave sts on LH needle, then knit first st on LH needle, then slip both sts off LH needle at once.
