I didn’t actually use the pattern for this. I just followed the photo. I used a vintage size 9 crochet hook.

The rings are knitting stitch markers. I crocheted 8 stitches into each ring. Then I kept doing sc in the round. On the first round I did two increases in the center at each side to bring the total up to 20 stitches for each round.
