I wanted to make use of both Pantone’s 2021 “Color of the Year” colors, but I liked this grit stitch placemat. So I did a colorblock concept.

The gray yarn was individually separated plies of the Cotton Weekend. Each little ball was only 50 yards maximum length, so there were a lot of ends to weave in each of these!!!

Chain 81 sts; 78 sts across for 62 rows with gray.
SC around the outside: 78 sts across top and bottom; 59 sts across sides.
Work grit st for 13 rows in gold along one side, finish off with a row of HDC.

There was about 24g of the gold left in my stash, and I wanted to dress up the placemats a bit. So I wove double-strands of the yarn into four ‘lines’ on the edge of each placemat. Rather than weave in all those ends, I thought little tassels for fringe would look nice.
