I translated the instructions to English using Google - it worked well enough.
Based on my experiences with other patterns, I thought 6” (15 cm) seemed a bit too much length from the bottom to the armholes, so I worked only 9 cm of checkerboard (not 12 cm) and made the armholes at only 5” (13 cm).
I toyed around with combination knitting to try to keep the stitch sizes even. In the round, I found that working all the knit sts so that they get seated backwards worked best (on the sleeves).
I made the first sleeve inc’s on the last row of cuff’s ribbing. And then I didn’t follow the instructions for patterning the sleeve exactly - I stared the check-patt with k3, p3; this off-sets the later stitch pattern so that it’s not symmetrical - so I wish I’d followed the instructions a little better. I made sure to make the second sleeve a mirror image of the texture so at least they will join the yoke similarly. It didn’t end up being much of a problem though. I had to work a couple of careful dec’s to get the sleeve patt to butt up to the front/back patt but it was pretty easy to figure out.
I’m going to make the neckband first before picking up sts for the buttonbands. (The instructions have the buttonbands worked first and the final, top buttonhole made later in the neckband.) I just like cardigans better this way and it also lets me easily control exactly how far the buttons get spaced apart.
I shaped the neckline with 3 sets of short-rows, 3 sts apart, beginning at the end of WS row once reaching 101 sts. I worked a RS row with smaller needles and a final set of raglan-dec’s which got me to 69 sts; I then started the neckline ribbing (WS). This worked out lovely!
Buttonbands worked out to 67 sts each. I tried cast off buttonholes but didn’t look up actual instructions; they don’t look too terrible but next time I need to learn more about doing them the correct way.
On the buttonbands and across the neckband as well: I purled one row from the WS, then bound off knitwise. I learned this edging from another project and really liked how it looks.
