Notes

I love trying out new techniques and ideas in a little sample, usually on my frame loom.

14 Feb: Teal striped scarf colour sample

16 Feb: Triple weft colour transitions sample

24 Feb: Two heddle 2-1 twill sample

4 Mar: Wool blanket pickup with leno sample

6 Mar: Alpaca scarf sample

23 Mar: Autumn plaid scarf colour sample

8 Apr: Alternating mohair sample

20 Apr: Chunky krokbragd weft sample

26 Apr: JCB Shh scraps sample

29 Apr: DK cotton scraps sample

2 May: Saori-style inspired eyes sample

6 May: Fourth sample for my sis’ chunky yarns

9 May: Quadrupled weft floats and weft fringe sample

16 May: L pattern suggested by Jeen on https://my.handweavingacademy.com/courses/color-editor-2/

30 May: Another pattern suggested by Jeen via https://www.ravelry.com/projects/BettyMo/pinwheels-hsts-s... which BettyMo cites as Strickler 74

2 June: Saory-style slitted band inspired by a picture shared by Jill on 28 May ‘25 in the ‘Weaving the Saory Way’ group’s new and interesting techniques thread.

26 July: Trying out a peculiarly dyed cotton-polyester yarn (Schachenmayr, special edition) on 4 different warps, one of them being the weft, the others pure cottons. Loved the emerging beach vibe! Wavy pattern was automatically created by the yarn. The warps shrank to differing degrees in the wash (somewhat unsurprisingly), but I’ll happily use this!

19 Aug: Inspiration from the Saori group led me to try out this funny little idea: needle-woven weft-rooted triangles (or hats or fins?).

24 Aug: Testing out skipped dent warp as well as a doubled/trippled weft experiment - liking the skipped dent, the weft thing less so.

26 Aug: Testing out differential shrinkage in the warp, using a pure wool (non-superwash) and a pure acrylic in the warp, and only acrylic (non-shrink) in the weft. It did NOT shrink differentially, even when pouring boiling water on it… back to the drawing board…

Nov-Dec: Trying out clasped weft with 3 colours - starting it with two colour and adding a third however got me some awkwardness (weft float ridge in the middle).

27 Dec: Using a very coarse chunky weft on a 8/2 cotton warp to try making a washcloth for peeling/scrubbing

30 Dec: Testing out different weft faced patterns for my meditation mat project, inspired by spunknit’s patterns that resembled inkle band patterns, and using low contrast colours as will be the case for the main project.
