For my second band, I’m adding in a third colour and going full length. 39 warps, 8/4 mercerised cotton.
I was careful to keep the tension peg near the tightest setting when warping, yet when I was half way through the warp, the tension had increased so much that my tension peg was at the loosest position and unable to move! What?
So I cheated and moved the warp from the third bottom peg from the back to the second bottom peg from the back. That gave the tension peg mobility again and I am able to weave on! But that probably isn’t good for the band’s straightness…
The band doesn’t seem skewed after taking it off the loom - reassuring, as is hearing that other weavers are using this ‘cheat’ too!
The band came to 222cm, fresh off the loom, and the overall warp has shrunk to 260cm (incl fringes), presumably down from 280cm that Ashford claims the full length warp can be on this loom.
Things to try:
- Do a full length warp but with different mercerised cotton to see if take up is less with other yarn
- Try not to put much tension on the warp as I’m warping
