Notes

While I’ve read enough to ROUGHLY understand the idea behind summer & winter, I am semi-blindly following the wonderful and super helpful instructions of:
https://www.ravelry.com/discuss/rigid-heddle-looms/129010...

I’ve never warped two heddle in this way, so that was a stumbling block, but thanks to YouTube that was overcome. I’ve warped a 17wpi recycled wool/acrylic yarn (Stylecraft ReCreate DK - though I would not recommend this yarn as the quality has decreased to the point where the new batches no longer pass the snap test) and my pattern weft is the 10wpi Stylecraft Softie Chunky.

Learnings:

  1. The warp is pretty sticky… try a cotton warp next time!
  2. The pattern weft is a bit too chunky for this warp - the pattern doesn’t square up. However, I love the look of it and don’t mind it not being square, and for now I’ll continue with it. Upon reflection I realise the sett was wrong! It should have been 10epi with these yarns - a set of 5dpi heddles would have been much better. No wonder it’s not squaring up!
  3. Weaving S&W on a RHL is not impossible!!!!! Super excited, even though my brain is steaming.
  4. The pattern on the draft seems to be showing up on the underside of the weaving rather than the top, but that’s just because the warp is black and the pattern weft white.
  5. The O version is simply the reverse of the X version - I thought they were separate!
  6. Depending on which tabby shaft goes first, the texture can be a bit different. Tried it with the bricks version - it’s not very noticeable in the blocks where the pattern weft is prominent, but where the background weft is prominent, there is a visible difference. They both looks nice, though I might slightly prefer the order in the 5th section.
