Frogged the ginormous socks I knit last year, and started a new one going down a needle size (3 mm). I’m a loose knitter and i want to avoid that saggy effect! Cast on 72 sts for a US size 10 foot, my gauge is 8 sts per inch. Robert wanted the cuff to be just above the ankle, so I knit just 18 rows after the creeper fair isle motif .
The heel is worked in eye of partridge stitch to ensure the best wear possible. The hardest part was definitely seaming together the intarsia instep flap with the sole flap. This pattern made me understand I actually like picking up stitches from salvedge edges, and that I hats intarsia with a passion!
The toe looks a lot like a duck foot, this because I totally messed up and knit decreases in every row instead of just in the odd ones as clearly explained! I’m making sure I get the toe shaping right in the second one.
After grafting, i left a long tail in order to reinforce the bottom toe area by weaving in the end. The resulting fabric is a nice criss cross I hope will work in making the sock more durable.
The second sock looks definitely better! First of all, I knit the intarsia flap as a tube, because it was wayyy easier. I embroidered the creeper face in duplicated stitch after the sock was finished and i’m so much more pleased. No evident seams, and the brown motif looks even and flows nicely with the underlying fabric.
I suggest just to do it after you weave in all dangling threads!I didn’t and I had some trouble :D The toe is much better also, as this time I followed the directions ;)
Thanks to squarejane for giving me this ubercool pattern to test!
