Notes

the pattern suggests to use slightly smaller needles for the inner part of the hem, but I preferred sticking to the 4.5 size even after completing the edge.

92 stitches should give an unstretched circumference of 52 cms; my head measures 58 cms but since I prefer caps to fit tightly and I have quite a loose gauge I cast the same amount of stitches suggested in the original pattern. keep in mind that the number of stitches should be a multiple of four (because of the four decreases for row at the top of the cap)!

1/1/2015 - UPDATE I rushed to finish the main body of the cap before 2015 but I’m not sure about the length. The pattern advices to work in round for 11.4 cms from brim to start of the decreases, but I didn’t bother to measure it and tried on my head instead… I did 10 cms instead of the adviced: it fits perfectly on the top but I feel like I prefer it arriving at least at my earlobes, so probably I’m frogging this and adding at least an inch more :/ I’m not satisfied with some decreases also, so yes, definitely I’ll frog that

4/1/2015 I finished the knitting part! After steam blocking the cap and the ears it started the hard part. I had a hard time finding fiber fill so in the end I stuffed ears with scrap fluffy ribbon I had at home. For sewing the ears to the top, I’ve used twice the recommended stitches (12 as the cast on stitches), trying to keep the base of the ears as open and rounded as possible and picking the cast on stitches. The ears tend to fall but I expected that. I’m not very happy about some twisted stitches I accidentally did when trying to pick up fallen loops, but apart from that, I love love this pattern and how it fits and feels!

18/1/2015 the project has been sitting here unfinished for ages due to lack of motivation. I decided to finish it today. I wanted to use felt ad least as possible, and instead of gluing the eyes i ‘m sewing it with some egyptian cotton thread you use for crocheting. The eyeballs are made with pannolenci, while the pupils are.in fact a pair of plain coat buttons.
Finished! I dont think ill put the nose and whiskers.
