Size 8 beads = Maria George seed bead bronze (Japan). Toho Higher Metallic Iris Olivine (Japan), purchased from Lauren Elise Designs
Size 6 beads = Mill Hill glass beads 16606 brilliant bronze (Japan)
I used 66 size 8 beads for the small size cuff…
The following mods were made for aesthetic reasons only :)
- Cast on using cast off cast on and 2.50mm hook
- knit 1 WSR with beads before starting the pattern (I would have preferred 2 rows, I think, but did not have much yarn)
- I used a centred double decrease (sl2tog kwise, k1, psso) instead of the left leaning double decrease in the pattern (sl1, k2tog, psso)
- I added the size 6 beads on the WSR after the charted row, before purling the stitch (I thought this centred the bead in the diamond shape better)
- knit 1 row after the lace pattern
- Cast off loosely in purl to match the cast on
First Attempt
Unblocked Size: 12.5cm long x 5cm wide (5” x 2”)
Blocked Size:?
27/8/13: I really am not enamoured of the bronze #8 beads along the edge of this; they are lost. I have found some nice green metallic ones that I will use instead… off to the frog pond briefly before continuing with this.
30/8/13: I am very pleased with the new size 8 beads.
Blocked 2/9/13; need to add fastner
Pre-block: 2” (5cm)w x 5.75” (14.5cm)h
Post-block: 2.25” (5.5cm)w x 6” (15cm)h
17/12/13: Two large black hook and eye fasteners added. I don’t like them and the gap between the ends they create. My wrists are slim enough that I am going to sew the ends together. It may make blocking difficult if it’s needed in the future, but it least I will be happy to wear this!
18/12/13: Done! The true colour is closer to the pinned orangey cuff, not the deep red orange finished cuff.
