What does one do when there’s a prolonged summer heatwave in the UK, and it’s as hot and sweaty as Satan’s armpit? One casts on for a long-sleeved cabled aran-weight cardigan, that’s what!

Yarn: I just love this Malabrigo shade - a really subtle, vintagey pearl-grey (it’s been in my stash for ages, bought for the colour rather than a project in mind).

Mods: I’m adding (necessary for me) length to the body of the cardigan: 1” before the body decreases, then 1” before the body increases (ie started increases at 10”). Consequently, I’ve ended up with a few more buttons/holes - 7 in all. Sleeves: I’ve picked up every other st around the armhole, plus 6 underarm sts, making 58 sts in all.

Final verdict: it’s turned out to be quite a close-fitting cardigan and though, ideally, I would have liked a bit more ease, I really like the solid, jacket-y feel to it. Probably another time, I would have gone up a needle or bust size. Love the yarn and I’ve enjoyed knitting with it - it gives a really nice, bouncy texture.
