Notes

I would love a Black Isle Yarns kit to knit Emily’s beautiful pattern, but I’ve delved into my stash/leftovers instead in a saintly fashion. And these Coast oddments, in blues and creams (I think the above shades are the ones I’m using), will hopefully make for a nice summery shawl.

Stony Binks is a sand/gravel bar which extends North Sea-wards from the end of Spurn Point, East Yorkshire. If you are walking there at the right time of the tide, you will see the sea splashing over this bar, a band of rough sea amongst calmer waters. The Eathie pattern, as I’m knitting it right now, looks rather like this - choppy waves and currents. The photo I’ve uploaded, which I took yesterday, is looking out to Stony Binks… though you can’t quite see the effect! I think I was rather taken with the silver reflections across the sea.

I’m carrying the yarn up the sides between stripes: this isn’t ideal and if I was using wool, I would splice between each stripe. But the yarn isn’t terribly splice-able, and I’m not prepared to weave all these ends in. It actually doesn’t look that noticeable…

15.5: really enjoyed the pattern, perfectly explained. The possibilities for colour-play are limitless sunflower
