Knitted up very quickly over the Glastonbury weekend from some odds balls of leftover cotton/linen DK. It’s kind of a hippy-happy, colourful mishmash!

Mods: I’ve cast on for this without too much thought about construction or use of colour, so this is a bit of a one-off! I’ve knitted it with 4 colours, rather than 2 (tbh, dictated by yardage), and I’ve knitted it in one piece to the armholes, then fronts/back separately and sleeves flat. I’ve put all the neck sts on holders, then picked up for the hood. Also I’ve used a 3-needle bind off for the hood top; and I’ve picked up 2 sts for every 3 rows along the front button border.

Another time I would: knit all the ribbing on a smaller needle; and also I would knit it top-down seamlessly. The hood has a look of vestigiality about it and I would definitely knit this bigger/longer: I think getting hoods ‘right’ is actually quite difficult.

This is a very cute free pattern with a good range of sizes (up to age 10), and a really effective stitch pattern with its reverse garter ridges. Wooden buttons are, I think, from Hobbycraft.

15.7: looks great on Orla! she’s lost a button, so I’ll have a rummage for another. Can’t see the hood in these photos but it certainly needs to be bigger. Overall, a really good summer cardigan and a great fit.
