Shawl #4 for 2015

Compulsive test-knit shawl for Sylvie: it has 2-row garter stripes and slipped stitches, the original in 3 colours - and it’s a yarn-eater!

I’m using quite a few leftover yarns for this: hoping for an ombre effect rather than a muddled one…

I’ve actually gone for 4 main colour groups: I’ve used 3 different cream yarns (I think I’ve just about got away with that), then a silver-grey, a golden brown, then two different ‘blacks’. There’s also a bit of very dark green in there which, stumbling about in my gloomy knitting room, I thought was dark grey… ah well! So I’m looking for a sepia, old photograph effect, shade-wise.

Pattern: an interesting, asymmetric design which grows quite organically and intuitively. Once you ‘get’ it, it’s almost like you don’t need to worry about stitch counts, etc. And I’m not quite sure if I got the short row wedges placed quite right according to the chart, but it honestly doesn’t matter in the wider scheme of things, say I: the asymmetry allows for this.

Yardage: mine weighs 330gm, so I’m reckoning I’ve used about 1400-1500 yds of yarn - a beast of a shawl!

End result: very pleased with this! The garter/slipped stitch pattern creates quite a dense, sturdy fabric and it feels amazingly warm. I’ve worn it a lot since I finished it a week or so ago - just right for the in-between type of weather we’ve been having. Je l’adore!
