I’m in the USA and my coffee press has bigger circumference wise.
12.75 “ = base circumference of the coffee press
12” = non-base circumference of the coffee press
9.25” = base
welt = ridge. I was unfamiliar with this knitting term. This video helped me http://knitting-crochet.wonderhowto.com/how-to/knit-using... Basically, pick up stitches in a previous row and k2tog (almost like a 3 needle bind off with out the bind off). Forms a nice ridge.
6/23/2015 still in the planning stages to get my measurements correct. I like the knitted daleks with 2 colors. Hubby and I decided on the black with silver accents. I did a sketch of the colors, where dark blue will be black, white will be gray. I’m planning on using the pipe cleaners and i-cord to make weapon accessories.

My coffee press was more narrow so I took out about 10 sts. Once I put markers where the bobble rows started this became a very easy pattern. It also helped to use a highlighter for the different bobble sections since some had more or less sts. I also made the pattern larger by screen capturing the PDF and printing it out in layout format.
For the bobbles I anchored the color before and after by wrapping it around the contrasting color. Not too tight but not to loose, leaning more towards the loose side. For the bobble sections where turns are used, only anchor wrap initially and at the end. I tended to wrap every chance I got which made my bobbles non-spherical for the two center rows.
For the caged looking part, I knitted with the gray yarn where the bobble markers were. I purled all other stitches. I should have decreased a few stitches as the grey ribbed section is a nice snug fit and the black part is looser since its 1x5 and 1x7 ribbing.
I definitely applied some OCD knitting to get the top part just right around the spout. I also had to cut back a few rows since my coffee press was shorter than the pattern.
For the appendages, I used jewelry wire to make them stick straight out from the body. I used a structure that looked like a tack. I created a large spiral at the base, and from the center the wire continues at right angles from the spiral. This means if you knitted your cosy snug (which I did) it presses against the glass and stays up right. I also did the same thing inside the plunger appendage so that it would stay open as well.
The egg beater was knit CO 4 sts for a few rows, then decrease to 3 sts.
For the plunger, I knit the largest part flat, then made an i-cord at the end:
1) CO 10, leave a long tail to sew up the side of the plunger
2) knit
3) purl
4) (k2tog, k1) x3, k1
5) purl
6) k1, (k2tog, k1) x2
7) purl
8) k2tog, k3
9) continue in i-cord for several rows.
BO and leave a long tail to attach to Dalek. Sew up side of plunger, weave in end.
