All Day Class taken at Knit’n’Knibble, Tampa, FL.
Excellent Instructor: Joan
Extremely interesting and eye opening class.
WARP: Double Weave (pic 3, 4 & 5) Warped from right to left.
92 ends
--46 on top layer and on bottom layer
--23 slots - 11 on left side of center, 12 on the right side of center (per class handout).
Warp pattern is in the small handbook that comes with the “Flip” pg. 12: http://www.schachtspindle.com/instructions/weaving/flip-m...
WEAVES:
1) Double Sett Weave (pic 1., first section at bottom of weaving) a double weave pickup pattern - one layer..
2) Two separate cloths (layers) woven at one time ( second section pic 1). No join at ends.
3) Tubular Weave (3rd section on pic 1. Also pic 2: from side edge, shuttle is slid into place to show two layers in Gray Tweed dolor)
4) Double Wide Weave (last section and same Gray Tweed color as Tubular Weave in pic 1. Also in pic 2, a shuttle is slid in to the side to show separated cloth. Fold is on left side of weaving) cloth ends up double the width woven. There will be a discrete line in the center of the cloth after being unfolded. That ‘line’ shows the change in tension of what was the edge of the cloth before being unfolded.
NOTE:
All these, plus additional weaves and pick up techniques used with Double Weave are discussed in Jane Patrick’s “The Weaver’s Idea Book” pgs. 203 - 214. Hard copy or eReader version’s available.
Tubular Weave creates a tube, closed on each selvedge edge.
Double Weave cloth means the weave creates a fold on one side, leaving it open on the opposite side. When you cut the cloth off the loom you open the cloth out and get a tiny bit less than twice the woven width. Seriously cool!
