This is a very clever pattern. I had to google the P2TTBL, but it was worth learning this sort of awkward decrease to get the nice pattern at the top of the hat.

I knit the size small and although I wish I had gone up to the medium, it stretches to fit me and should be just fine for my 10 year old after it’s blocked. I realized midway through it was a bit small so I did the 6” length that would have been correct for the next size up.
