2-16-15 Wanted to do a project incorporating my new interest in “granny squares”. Found this pattern! Then I had to try to hunt down a granny square. Settled on just a basic, no frills square, and picked my colors.
2-17-15 Started the Cat. Got all of the front half of the body done and sewed a backing on the square with red felt. Started the back granny square. I used the H hook for the square, then on the first row of the purple I used 4.5mm. After that I switched to the G hook for the rest of the neck/head. Changed colors for the two ears.
2-18-15 Finished the second half of the cat and got the pieces crocheted together, the face done (the fun part…but it took much longer than expected because I wanted it “just so” and I was being hard to please). I think when I make another of these cats I may want to find a granny square that is more closed. I do like how the felt looks through the holes in this basic granny square, though. So all is good. I also got the two arms finished. I didn’t do the “join and ch 1” thing but worked them amigurumi style in a spiral.
2-19-15 All that was left was to do the two legs and the tail. I did them all spiral fashion (amigurumi style) rather than doing the join and ch indicated in the pattern. I made the tail 41 rows instead of 39, and worked a slight curve in it. 2-20-15 After thinking about it, I decided to tack the tail up on Zelda’s back. I stitched through the felt backing on the square with thread to be sure it was secure.
Very pleased with how Zelda came out! I wish it had been made easier to find a suitable granny square (26 to 28 st row) instead of just saying “use your favorite”. The examples given were fine, but apparently had to be adapted (according to the designer) and as a beginner with granny squares, I wasn’t sure how to do that. Still…I’m happy!
