Okay, putting all these together might get me through the whole pattern. Using a 3.5mm just to be safe.

The colour sequence will go: Ivory Letter Opener, Dawning, Tan Van, Rustic, and end on Sage. I think that might work. Hopefully.

Swapping the starting ch for a standing dc.

Jesus wept, this chart is driving me nuts. Decided to write out each row even if it makes me feel like a total Luddite. Somehow that made it go faster!

Realised on row bloody 22 that I had been doing dcs instead of post dcs on either side of the lattice diamonds. No wonder they weren’t standing out as defined as in the pattern pic. Had to undo and redo nine bloody rows, good christ.

Okay, so the repeat instruction of the shaded sections is 3 in addition to the first go, not 3 in all. Which means on row 30, it’s the initial bpdc3 and then 4 more for a total of 5 before the intervening bpdc section for a total of 10 on each side before the middle which means 20 bpdc3s for the entire row 30. It took me way too long to figure that out.

Okay, turns out I’m going to need a lot more yarn.

So the colour sequence is now Rustic, Cinnamon (which is an almost perfect match), Olive, Leo, and finishing on Galaxy Blue. I may not need the blue but who knows, I might. Or more! I’m determined to get all 77 rows cos I really like the lines of the final section.

Realised I didn’t actually need to do the full 77 cos the extension made the shawl look weirdly incomplete to my eyes. Much preferred it to end with the big open diamonds on row 69. So only needed part of Leo.

Also realised row 69 had ch 1s for fringe so instead I did a row of sc with 1 sc in the central ch 2 sp, ch 2, and then 1 sc, and sc across to the other end. Gave it a nicely finished edge, I reckon.

I think this pattern might have given me a horror of chart-only patterns. Seven double-sided pages written out. So fourteen pages in all.

Welp, I laid out the complete shawl to take pix and only then discovered I had fucked up the placement of the lattice diamond in the final section. I even wondered when I started that if it was wrong and I checked the charts on different pages to make sure they aligned and it seemed like they did. But nope, not when it came to actually doing it. God, I am so annoyed.
