Trying to modify this down to a scarf. The multiple of 19 doesn’t include the side stitches so I’m just going to go with the chart count of 51 stitches and try and work from that. The rib will contract the fabric a great deal.

Replacing the starting ch 3 with a standing dc.

Really wish the rows in the chart were numbered. It makes it so difficult to keep track of which row I’m on. Ah, okay, the trick is to look at the centre stitches.

I theeenk there’s a discrepancy between the written and chart of row 12. According to the chart, the 2F around the same stitch goes around the first fpdc of the 2 fpdcs of the previous row, but the written has it going around the second fpdc. I’ll go with the chart in this instance.

Same with row 13: the 2bpdc around the same stitch needs to be swapped with the 2 bpdcs around the next two stitches. On both ends of the row. So the double is always on the outside.

Man, I do not remember the Hosta being this difficult to parse.

Actually did exactly the number of repeats the pattern required and then went to the ribbing. I did have to swap the fp2tog for a bp2tog to make it work but that was fine.

The dimensions of this scarf really were a happy accident. I’m so relieved to be spared the headachey math.
