Adapting the pattern I used for my first scarf ever into a blankie because I’ve never used the lemon peel stitch on this scale and I need a quick and easy stitch to use up this awful acrylic yarn that seduced me with its pretty colours and now I’m stuck with two cakes of it.
Fsc 164 for a multiple of 2. Place stitch markers at regular intervals for easy counting.
Row 1: Ch 1, sl st in first st, dc in next, sl st in next, repeat to end. Make note of whether you end on a dc or a sl st to match the rest of the odd rows. Turn.
Right. So that really should have been a multiple of 2 + 1. Because ending on the dc slants the whole thing up in a slightly unpleasant and not perfect way. I’m trying to mitigate the slant by using an hdc instead of a dc as that final stitch but it’s not helping much. It really should have been 165 fsc and making sure to end on a slip stitch on the odd rows. But I can’t be bovvered starting all over again cos I hate this acrylic feel so much so it’s just gunna have to be slanted. Bah.
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc across. Turn.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until long enough. It’s easy to lose stitches on the ends of rows so check the alignment of the curls and count from the stitch markers. I managed to lose two stitches so started counting my stitches after every hdc row.
I thought I’d end on a row of sc but didn’t have enough yarn in the correct colour so ended on a curls row instead.
I prolly should put a border around it but I’ll see how I feel when I get there.
Hmm. 31cms from one cake which means I’m only gunna get 62cms in length as opposed to 100cms in width. I should get two more cakes to get 124cms in length, that seems a decent size.
The two extra cakes got it to a pretty good length even if I had to unwind and cut the final cake into smaller balls so I could sequence the colours properly cos the cake had them actually backwards, oof.
Didn’t bother with a border after all.
DO NOT EVER BUY ACRYLIC AGAIN, NO MATTER HOW PRETTY!
