Self-drafted to fit 0-3month baby using leftover scrap yarn.

Cast on 17 stitches using alternating knit/purl longtail cast on.

WS: Sl1 purlwise wyif, (k1, p1), k2
RS: Sl1 purlwise wyif, (p1, k1)

Repeat pattern for ~5-6cm.

Braid:
Row1: Sl6 st onto cable needle and hold in back. Knit next 5st following rib pattern, continue rib pattern on the 6st from cable needle, and then knit the remaining 6st remaining on the needle continuing rib pattern.

Knit next 3 rows in established rib pattern.

Row5: Knit 6st in rib, sl5 st onto CN and hold in front, k6 st in rib, k5 from CN in rib.

Knit next 3 rows in established rib pattern.

Repeat previous 8rows 8 times more.

(Note: The stitches from the cable needle will be opposite of the established stitches in order to continue the rib pattern, but since these stitches will be hidden underneath the cable cross the break in rib pattern will be hidden.)

Continue with established rib pattern for another ~5-6cm.

Bind off:
Must be done on the wrong side to hide seam.
Line up cast on edge with the live stitch edge with cast on edge in back and headband inside out.
Go into first stitch on the needle, and then go through the equivalent stitch on the cast-on edge and knit through both (similar to 3 needle bind off).
Repeat for next stitch on the the needle, and then bind off previous stitch by passing stitch over.
Repeat until all stitches are worked and bound off.

Sew in ends.
