I’ve been dying to knit Mountain Walk Fingerless Mitts as a gift for my mom, inspired by the ones Florence had knit, but since she hasn’t released a pattern for it yet I decided to buy the pattern for the socks instead and see if I could figure out how to modify the pattern to knit the mitts instead.

I started off by casting on 56 stitches using german twisted cast on, but this seemed way too large, so I frogged and started with 48 stitches instead (needed to be a multiple of 8).

I knit 10 of the cable repeats before beginning the increases for the thumb. I did a total of 14 increases, increasing every other row, and then split the 14 stitches before the increases off and put on spare yarn to form the thumb.
I knit an additional 6 repeats of the cable pattern for the rest of the palm and bound off using just a standard bind off knit very loosely.
For the thumb, I picked up 4 stitches, making a total of 18 stitches for the thumb, and then knit 3 cable repeats before binding off.
