A commenter wrote out a written pattern but I’d like to type it out for myself to make it easier to follow. The video is still useful to understand certain aspects such as how to sl st into the circles at the end of each row and which stitch to start each row in, as well as some insights on the pattern design.

Make 2 circles:

Row 1: magic circle, ch 1, 6 sc into magic circle, join with sl st
Row 2: 3 dc into each sc and into joining sl st, invisible join (21 st around)

For 2nd circle, before pulling through the last two loops of the final dc, pick up the tail from magic loop and use it instead of the working yarn to complete the dc and invisible join.

Pull up a loop with the working yarn through the closest st, ch 13, sl st to other circle (insert hook from front/RS), ch 1 and turn. Ensure you have the RS of each circle facing outwards.

The rest of the pattern is creating “whorls” consisting of 2 rows each, the first row having differing instructions for shaping and increasing (but always symmetrical), and the second return row always being the same, sc across except first and last stitches being sl st.

From this point everything will be worked into the back loop only (the sl st to attach to the circle should go under both loops still). The rows always begin and end with a sl st. Always skip over the sl st joining to the circle, start the row in the sl st before it that ended the previous row. Make sure to always enter the circle from the front/RS when joining with sl st (this is more intuitive on side of the shell than the other).

inc = 2 sc into 1 st

Whorl 1 (work first row into top loop of chain, remember to skip joining sl st):
- sl st, sc, hdc, 7 dc, hdc, sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 11 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Whorl 2:
- sl st, inc, hdc, 3 dc, 3 dc into 1 st, 3 dc, hdc, inc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 15 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Whorl 3:
- sl st, inc, sc, hdc, 9 dc, hdc, sc, inc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 17 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Whorl 4:
- sl st, inc, inc, sc, hdc, 9 dc, hdc, sc, inc, inc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 21 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Whorl 5-16 (make 12 of these identical whorls before going back to unique shaping):
- sl st, 5 sc, hdc, 9 dc, hdc, 5 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 21 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Whorl 17:
- sl st, inc, 4 sc, hdc, 9 dc, hdc, 4 sc, inc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 23 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Whorl 18:
- sl st, 6 sc, hdc, 9 dc, hdc, 6 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 23 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Whorl 19:
- sl st, 6 sc, hdc, 4 dc, 3 dc in 1 st, 4 dc, hdc, 6 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 25 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Whorl 20-22 (These last 3 rows are identical, but you’ll run out of stitches to join to on the circle. Join whorl 21 into the st where the first whorl was attached, and whorl 22 into the first st/ch of the first whorl. The video is helpful to visualize where to join)
- sl st, 6 sc, hdc, 11 dc, hdc, 6 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn
- sl st, 25 sc, sl st, join with sl st, ch 1 and turn

Finish by cutting the yarn and pulling the tail through after joining with a sl st after finishing the return row of whorl 22.
