As I was preparing to cut into an afterthought-leg-style sock foot a few months ago, I noticed that it was almost the right size and shape to be an eye mask. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but have been having sporadic migraines lately, and am pretty light-sensitive during them, so I’ve been doing all sort of contortions to try to block afternoon light from the window over my bed, and have decided to try making an eye mask intentionally this time.
modified from an afterthought-leg-style sock, as follows: JMCO 10 each needle, total 20. Increase once (with kfb) at each end of each needle on even-numbered rows to a total of 30 per needle, total 60. knit even until piece covers both eyes comfortably, then decrease once (with k2tog) at both ends of each needle on even-numbered rows back down to 10 per needle / 20 total. either graft rem sts together, or use 3-needle bind off with a smaller needle to minimize the seam.
not sure yet if I’ll add some kind of ties - I-cord? crochet chain? - to the ends, or whether I’ll use one of the elastic headbands I already have to hold it in place instead.
