I made these to match my mom’s Elf hat for her birthday!
This is based off of the “bi color fingerless mitts” pattern, only using a slip stitch because it results in a much cleaner, tighter knit. I also just bound off for the thumb instead of fiddling with making a thumb.
I cast on 30 stitches instead of 28 to account for the tighter knit. For most people I would definitely cast on 32-36, knit 4-5 rounds 1x1 rib, then k1, sl1 all the way around in color B. Then sl1, k1 in color A. Knit for 4-5” in this alternating slip stitch pattern, ending in a Color A row.
Follow pattern in color B for 14 stitches, then m1 using a color B bar and finish the row in pattern. Next row, follow pattern in color A for 15 stitches, then m1 with a color A bar. Knit 2 rows in pattern, then knit 21 stitches in color B, m1, finish row in pattern. Next row, knit 22 stitches and m1 in color A, finish row in pattern. You should still have alternating colors all the way around.
Knit 6 rows in pattern. Then knit 14 stitches, bind off 9, finish row. Knit to gap, backwards loop cast on 1-3 stitches, finish row. Knit for 2-3” in pattern. Cut yarn B, do 1x1 rib in color A for 5 rows, bind off in pattern.
