OK - I struggled with the instructions for the bottom of the first ‘keyhole’ for MONTHS! I tried and tried and tried to make it work as written - looked at other proojects, searched for pattern errata, everything. I kept assuming that since I haven’t done much with cables (just the “Buzzy Bee Baby Blanket” that maybe it was my inexperience not understanding why the stitches didn’t add up, and why it just didn’t look right.
Enough already. I AM a good knitter - I KNOW I am.
So - what if I let the instructions be wrong, and look at everyon’s photos, then reverse-engineer what I am seeing and CORRECT the intructions that I have.
Once I did that I was able to finish the socks that had been tormenting me for 5 months in a mere 2 days.
This is what I come up with:
In the Key, the first and third cables are correct. These are the cables that lean to the left, both as cables in pattern, and as cables on a purled background (the left side of the bottom of the keyholes, chart rows 19, 39, and 43)
The second cable (leans to the right): Sl the next 3 stiches (not 2) - rows 27, 51 and 55
The fourth cable (leans to the left against a purled background): Sl next 3 (not 2) st to cable needle and hold at back. K2 (not P2) from left needle, sl one back from right needle to left needle and P it, then P2 from cable needle (not K2).
These instructions affect the left side of the bottom of the keyhole if you are knitting from the toe up.
