A friend visited New Zealand earlier this year and brought back yarn from Kepler Mountain View Alpaca Farm. I decided to use the yarn to knit her a hat.

I cast on the hat with size 5 needles, then knit the the bottom band on US size 3 needles. I knit 12 rounds, then purled 1 round, then knit another 12 round. I then created the folded hem picking up the cast on stitches and knitting them together with my active stitches.

After that, I switched to US size 5 needles and knit the stitch pattern. I modified the stitch pattern #13 from the Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible to incorporate crown decreases.

I still haven’t quite figured out nupps, but it was a fun challenge to work out the modifications to the lace chart.

Overall, it was a quick, fun knit and my friend loved the hat.
