Notes

I made these slippers in December with the intention of having a pair of slippers to wear on Christmas day.

I’ve made a few socks for myself, so I decided to freehand these. I picked out a few superwash sock yarns that I had in my stash and the plan had been, “pick two colors and pick a motif” until I reached the sufficient length. I used and adapted a few motifs from “The Complete Book of Traditional Fair Isle Knitting” by Sheila McGregor.

General construction notes:

  • Cuff-down
  • Provisional cast on, added the band with the button after finishing the rest of the slipper
  • German short row heels with mini gusset for heel
  • German short rows and some directional decreases to get toe shaping to account for the steep slope of my toe line

Due to previous fit issues with stranded colorwork socks, I sized up my needle to US size 3. I also cast on more stitches than I’ve done in the past, which led to the cuff & heel being too loose. I will likely make another pair with this same approach, but will make some adjustments to achieve a better fit.

Overall, a very fun project and great way to use some stash sock yarn.
