So it was springtime in the Rockies. Beautiful day, we went to a music festival & I brought my current project (amigurumi). Being originally from California, I wondered why everything was indoors. Then it started to snow. I wanted a hat. I had just knit this pattern for DH, and it was fresh in mind. And I’d just read that crocheting through the back loop alone is a pretty good approximation of garter-stitch knit. So I picked up the skein that was supposed to be the second color of the toy, and started working. Sadly, it was not finished in time, and just a tad large (good for not crushing a hairdo, though). It could have been made smaller by doing fewer rows in each segment, which I probably would have done if this project were planned & I’d had a tape measure. I may end up wearing it sometime, anyway. Or I might offer it to a charity & try again. It is a good, warm hat.

12/29/13 At this point I’ve made 3 hats on this concept. I lost the good one (listed as “Sidways Hat” without a picture. I may finally put a picture here of the hat I finished in the week before Christmas. Like the original “Emergency hat”, it was a bit large, but then I added a slightly tighter band, and it looks something like a beret.

1/4/14 Actually, the way I fixed the other “Emergency hat” worked well for this one. I did the band in mosaic crochet. And got a picture.
