Notes

Mod - for some working top down using Judy’s magic cast on (like sock toes) of 96 sts, working top down with faux seam, enhancing “ears” by catching with a single stitch. Others bottom up in the round with a three-needle bind off on the inside.

Hunting out every scrap of pink yarn in the house to use until the consignment of cheap acrylic in various shades of pink arrives from Kemps.

Making as many as possible between today (9 Jan) and the march (21 Jan) to hand out on the day.

#1

  • 50g/85m Rico creative cotton aran colour 64
  • 20g/34m Rico creative cotton aran colour 14
  • Cast on 104 sts on 4.5mm needle, 2.5” 2x2 rib, change to 5mm needles, further 2” rib followed by 4” st stitch. Three needle bind-off with 5.5mm needle.

#2

  • 85g/285m Crystal Palace Yarn, Panda Cotton shade Strawberries-Limes held double throughout
  • top down, cast on 96 sts on two short 5mm circs
  • knitted last half inch on 4.5mm circ, cast off using 5mm needle

#3

  • 52g/109m Hayfield Bonus Aran shade 0774
  • structure as #2

#4

  • 90g/119m Artesano aran, shade violet
  • structure as #2 but cast on 92 sts

January 14, 2017

#5

  • 28g/66m Sirdar supersoft aran shade 0820 (“ears”)
  • 10g/9m Crystal palace yarns mochi plus shade rainbow (ribbing)
  • same top-down structure
  • Because the rainbow yarn was the end of a ball and all I had left the ribbing is much shorte than required. Will check with intended recipient whether I should add more in the main colour.

#6

  • 65g/127m Stylecraft special aran, shade 1241 “fondant”
  • usual construction but changed to 4.5mm earlier in ribbing which may account for extra yardage.

#7

  • 15g/29m Stylecraft special aran, “fondant”, for bright stripes
  • 24g/50m Hayfield Bonus Aran shade 0774
  • recipeint alleges she has “a small head” so 90 sts for top, 88 for ribbing and proportionately shorter.

#8

  • 38g Jaeger Donegal, colour “cranberry”, held double with, for the top, unlabled pink mohair and for the ribbing unlabeled pink 4ply in a similar colour to the mohair.
  • very ancient stash and leftovers, and this one’s mine!
