Notes

Love. Love love love. And, having just joined the Op-Art Socks book KAL am looking forward to making another pair later in the year! On now to the Feb/March scheduled Necker.

20 Feb - was distracted by finishing Follow Your Arrow. Now back on track and pretty confident of crossing the finishing line. More than half the second sock done. Tried on right sock - deliciously snug and comfortable fit. However the icord bind off at the top was a tad inflexible, will make it looser on the left sock.

10 Feb - rather astonished at how quickly the first sock has been done. This has been significantly aided by the purchase of a chart holder with a magnetic strip which not only attaches the piece of paper to the board but also shows which row is being worked. I do wish, however, that having purchased the physical book it also came with a pdf version. I had to break the spine of my beautiful shiny copy in order to photocopy the charts.

The fit is perfect for my 38/24cm foot using the 2mm needles, and I love this toe-up heel construction as well as the already-mentioned method of increasing at the toe. Learning so much here, and am particularly excited by the “knit tubes of fairisle inside out” concept which significantly aids tensioning the stranding. Currently debating the merits of ribbing the cuff or applying the i-cord tie thing. Since I’ve (almost) exactly followed the pattern so far will probably end up with the tie.

7 Feb - missed the opening ceremony since I was both at work and being texted about urgent aeroplane model construction issues. But I’ve finally cast on, using Judy’s magic cast on rather than that suggested. Much enjoying the yo increases though. Using 2mm needles, a size down from those suggested, in the hope that the 25.5cm foot will magically become a 24cm foot and actually fit me.

6 Feb Oops, only just caught on to the fact that it kicks off tomorrow. So much for swatching. Also have realised it’s very unlikely I’ll finish the pair in the time available so am not going to push it. A leisurely enjoyment of process without goal.

This is a holding project until Feb 7th. A superb answer to the terrible dilemma of LGBT rights in Russia, the WO host country.
