Notes

I bought these 3 skeins of yarn on a whim. The colors looked beautiful together! When I got home and looked at them some more I realized they reminded me of the beach. After lots of designs, swatches, starts and stops I finally settled on this scarf design. It was so difficult trying to come up with a project that would be worthy of the yarn.

I’m not gonna lie, this scarf took a really long time to make. Of course I was working on other projects at the same time, and I’m not the fastest knitter, so it could have gone more quickly.

I’m not experienced at colorwork so I tend to have trouble getting my floats the right length and avoiding holes where there are color changes, but switching from stockinette to seed stitch for the 2 color sections solved those problems for me. My Seed stitch gauge is naturally looser than my Stockinette gauge, so I didn’t try to leave long floats, I just worked naturally and the shorter floats ended up making my Seed stitch gauge closer to my Stockinette gauge. I also wrapped the new yarn clockwise around the old yarn for each color change, which resulted in lots of twisting that I had to untangle after each row. I’m sure there must be an easier way to do this but it kept me from having holes where the colors change and it created a nice look on the back of the scarf.

Overall I’m thrilled with the end result. It feels like the Sea, and that’s what I was going for.
